A woman expecting her first child is choosing where to give birth. A parent wants a paediatrician who sees patients on Saturdays. An executive needs a full health check before a posting abroad. Each of them searches on their phone or asks an AI assistant, and each keeps the two or three clinics that come up. For a private clinic, those few positions are worth a steady stream of consultations, scans and admissions every year.
Now picture the agency responsible for making your clinic visible for those searches also working for the clinic across the street, and for the diagnostic centre that just opened round the corner. Who are they really working for? It is a question too few clinic directors ask before they sign.
The problem with a limited number of positions
On a search such as private maternity clinic or MRI scan open at weekends in a given city, patients look at the first few results and little else. In AI assistant answers the list is shorter still, often two or three names. There is not room for everyone.
A provider serving several competing clinics in the same area ends up competing against itself. It cannot put every client first for the same searches. At best, effort gets spread thin and no clinic gets the full benefit. At worst, the provider quietly favours whichever client pays the most or has been with them longest.
Then there is confidentiality. To do the job well, your provider learns which specialties drive your revenue, which departments you plan to open, how busy you are and where you are weak. That is precisely the information a competitor would love to have.
What to ask any provider
Before signing, ask three plain questions. How many healthcare providers do you work with in my area? What is the most you will take on? Is there an option that reserves the sector for me? A serious partner answers without hesitation. A vague reply along the lines of we work with lots of clinics, which is a strength, should put you on alert. Our guide on choosing a visibility partner for a clinic sets out the full checklist.
What sector exclusivity is worth
Exclusivity means your provider will not work for any other provider in your sector in your area for the full length of the commitment. It costs more, and the price only makes sense measured against what it protects.
It protects your positions
All the effort goes into your clinic, with no trade-offs against a rival. On the searches that matter for your specialties, you are not sharing your provider's attention.
It shuts the door on competitors
A competing clinic that wants the same approach has to look elsewhere. You gain a head start, and in visibility the head start matters: every month of presence builds on the months before.
It should be judged in patients
To decide whether it is worth the premium, start from what a patient is worth to your clinic over a year: consultations, diagnostics, any admissions, and the rest of the family who may follow. Then estimate how many extra patients a month would cover the gap between a standard plan and an exclusive one. The payback calculator runs the numbers with your own figures.
When exclusivity is the right call, and when it is not
Exclusivity makes sense for a clinic that wants to become the reference in its area, is opening new services, or knows a direct competitor is weighing up its own visibility investment. It also makes sense while the sector is still empty, because that is the only time it can be bought.
It is less useful for a small practice that is just starting, has limited capacity for new patients, or wants to measure what visibility brings before going further. In that case a standard seat with its own positioning is a sensible starting point. Our guide on choosing between Presence, Momentum and Flood for a clinic helps you decide.
How Traffic Engine handles exclusivity
Traffic Engine is Kolonell's service for making your clinic visible when patients search for your specialties, on Google and in AI assistant answers. To avoid the conflict of interest described above, each sector is capped at 3 standard seats per area, each with its own positioning, so the clinics we serve are not fighting over the same spots. Our guide on limited seats per sector explains the rule.
For clinics that want to go further, two plans lock the entire sector: no competitor from your vertical for the 12 months of the commitment. Momentum Exclusive costs €3,900 a month, which comes to €1,500 + 12 × €3,900 = €48,300 in year one. Flood Exclusive costs €5,900 a month, or €72,300 in year one. The key point: exclusivity is only available while the sector is empty. It is withdrawn as soon as the first standard seat is signed in your area.
Whatever the plan, the rules are the same: a Visibility Audit at €690 as the entry point, credited against the setup if you start within 30 days, a dated report every week, results in your own Search Console and a measured review at three months. Kolonell guarantees delivery and measurement, not what Google or an AI assistant decides. See the offer and check whether exclusivity is still open in your area.
